Metro Futures Event - A Celebration of the Tyne and Wear Metro
On Monday 11th June, a group of VIPs - including our public co-researchers - came together with representatives from Nexus, Open Lab and Newcastle City Futures for an event celebrating Tyne and Wear Metro’s design and innovation past, present, and future.
The evening included two film screenings: ‘Metro: The Way Ahead’ from 1980 depicting the origin design and opening of the metro, and ‘Metro Futures’ from 2018 depicting the recent public consultation for the design of the next fleet of Metro trains.
Designer Darren Richardson told the story of Metro's iconic design and branding, and researchers from Open Lab demonstrated prototype digital applications for Metro.
The event was followed by a drinks reception, where attendees continued informal discussion and responded to the question "What will passenger journeys on Metro be like in 10 years?"
